“Most people see the view out front toward the Nile from the Palace Hotel. But this was the view from my balcony toward the back where the gardens are. Wonderful old hotel – walking distance to the monuments.”

The view from an eighth floor, river side room at the Sonesta St. George Hotel - Luxor.

“My stay at the St. George Sonesta was short, just one night, but it certainly made an impression with its breathtaking sunset views over the Nile River. I awoke at dawn when a call to prayer blasted out of every mosque in Luxor. I didn’t mind as I needed to get up so that I could make the boat that would take me across the Nile to go hot air ballooning over the Valley of Kings. The sun was a rising ball of fire as we lifted off from a sugar cane field for an hour flight over the temples of Thebes and the small villages below. As if that experience weren’t enough, later in the day I descended into the tomb of Tutankhamun. The Sonesta St. George was a great base from which to explore.”
