“China’s version of Hawaii was still in catch-up mode when I visited in 2008, but the Kempinski stuck out as an extraordinary resort – lovely beach, well-appointed rooms, and the somewhat bizarre inclusion of a Munich beerhall-themed pub on site. Very friendly staff, and a succession of swimming pools if you didn’t want to venture into the sea.”
